TUCSON, Ariz. (KOLD News 13) - The KOLD First Alert Weather Team has issued Action Days for Friday and Saturday, Aug. 13-14, because of a potential for flash-flood producing rains in the forecast.
The storms’ slow movement will lead to heavy rain and flood concerns.
Storms look to favor the high terrain mainly across Santa Cruz, eastern Pima and Cochise counties by late afternoon lasting through the evening. Storms will ramp up Friday afternoon through Saturday with rounds of heavy rain possible, which would lead to more flooding.
The National Weather Service of Tucson issued a flash flood watch through Sunday, Aug. 15.
Locally heavy rainfall combined with the saturated ground will likely result in flash flooding of washes, small streams, and poor drainage areas. Burn scars from past and more recent wildfires will be especially prone to flash flooding and debris flow. Flash flooding may also lead to significant mainstem river rises that could linger into Sunday and Monday. This may result in some washes and rivers reaching flood stage.

Keeping Your Pets Safe
The Pima Animal Care Center, already dealing with an overflowing shelter, is offering the following tips to keep pets safe during the weekend storms.
- Upload pet’s photo and profile to www.lost.petcolove.org. Should your pet become lost, you will be notified if your pet would enter a shelter.
- Keep pets indoors.
- Buy a lock or carabiner clip for gates. Wind can easily blow gates open, allowing pets to get out.
- Check your yard for areas where pets might be able to escape. Patch up any holes in fences. Pets can make small holes much bigger and use them to escape.
- Make sure your pet’s microchip is up to date. Pet owners can do it for free by going HERE.
- Place a collar on your pet and include a tag that has up-to-date information. Both can be purchased in the store located in PACC’s lobby.
- Write your phone number on the collar using a permanent marker.
Tips on reuniting with a lost pet are HERE.
