Flash’s Tom Cavanagh Wants to Return For Final Season as Reverse Flash - Screen Rant

Actor Tom Cavanagh, who has played Harrison Wells on CW’s The Flash for seven years, announces he would be keen to reprise his role as the Reverse-Flash whenever the show decides to wrap up for good. Over the years, Cavanagh has played multiple versions of the character Harrison Wells, beginning with season one when he was secretly the Reverse-Flash, Eobard Thawne, in disguise. In the show’s second season, the sudden appearance of “Harry” Wells from Earth-2 began a long-running tradition of Cavanagh portraying several multiverse versions of the same character.

More recently, the CW has announced Cavanagh's departure from the show alongside co-star Carlos Valdes, who plays Cisco Ramon. Cavanagh’s exit was originally planned for season 6, however, it was postponed after production on last year’s season was halted due to the global pandemic. Despite the decision from both actors to move on to other things, showrunner Eric Wallace has confirmed they are still “happily keeping the door open for return appearances” from both Cavanagh and Valdes.

Now TVLine has provided some insight as to what form that potential return may take for Cavanagh. While they suggest there is no final word when Cavanagh’s last performance in season 7 may air, the actor himself has discussed a potential return to the role of Reverse-Flash when the show wraps for its final season. Cavanagh said:

“I’m not saying that this is going to happen, but [Arrowverse EP] Greg [Berlanti] and I always felt that when Grant [Gustin] decides to depart the show, it’d be hard to imagine a scenario other than ‘Batman comes home to Joker,’ and Flash and Reverse Flash settle things. It’d be hard to imagine a different storyline — and that’s all I’m going to say right now.”

Harrison Wells The Flash

While Cavanagh’s potential return is still far from certain, it is good news that fans may still get to see him even after he has exited the show as a series regular. At the moment, however, there is no word on when The Flash may eventually wrap up for good, and The Flash season 8 has already been confirmed. When that time does come, however, there is probably no better way for it to end than with one final showdown with Barry Allen’s greatest nemesis.

In the meantime, fans of The Flash will still have plenty to keep them occupied even after Cavanagh and Valdes have made their departures. Later this year, the show will introduce the character Bart Allen, a.k.a. Impulse, the future son of Barry Allen and Nora West, in the show’s upcoming 150th episode. The same episode will also see the return of the couple’s daughter, Nora West-Allen, and perhaps having family around will make Cisco and Wells’ exits easier to swallow.
