The Flash returned and saw the team helping to rebuild Central City after Eva’s destruction. Still trying to heal, everyone is working together to make things better once more. In addition, Iris is ready to get back to work, preparing to bring The Citizen back on board. Of course, how else can anything be smooth sailing without the addition of a meta? Rather, Abra Kadabra’s reappearance?
As the city is being rebuilt, we see various members of Team fFash helping with construction. Even though Caitlin is helping out, she is not feeling well and it may have something to do with Frost. While she tries to get a handle on her headaches, Allegra gets to work with Iris at the paper.
Even though she finds it difficult to critique Iris’ work on Eva’s run in Central City, she tells her boss that she should put herself in the story as well. Her experiences could help everyone who had to watch their loved ones interacting with their mirror counterparts.
All while this is happening, a meta named Abra Kadabra reappears in Central City, just when the city is trying to heal. Barry and Cisco attempt to stop him, but then he makes cryptic comments to Barry about someone named Cronarch before Frost appears to save the day.
While Cisco and Chester try to figure out what Kadabra was creating with his nanotech, Frost and Caitlin work together to figure out what is going on with the headaches. With so many things happening, Abra Kadabra being back is a lot for them to deal with.
Eventually, Barry discovers that Kadabra lured them into a trap by letting himself be captured by A.R.G.U.S. His plot was to get to the three remaining spheres he needed in order to create a device full of antimatter in order to destroy the city.
Reeling with his feelings of guilt over missing the obvious ploy, Barry has a heart to heart with Iris. It’s the first time we truly get to see just how despondent Barry is over not seeing mirror Iris for who she was. He feels guilty that he essentially was with an imposter and didn’t see it wasn’t his Iris. However, Iris continues to be her amazing self, letting Barry know she isn’t mad at him. Not only was this an important moment for him, but also for Iris, who is also having trouble with her feelings over the mirror verse. Through the course of the episode, they both realize they need to face what happened so they can move forward.
His talk with Iris helps Barry realize why Kadabra wants to destroy the city. In the future, Kadabra had gotten ahold of the device that would retrieve his memories of life before Crisis after he began getting dreams of a family he didn’t know. Realizing he lost his family because of Barry, he was out to destroy the city.
Before the city can be destroyed, Barry is able to get through to Kadabra. He is able to prevent him from making a horrible mistake, but not before they are attacked by a mysterious meta, who has unbelievable strength and power that not even Kadabra or Barry together can stop.
Unfortunately, the showdown leads to Kadabra’s death, which is sad for so many reasons. Not only because things had been settled, or almost settled with Barry, but that he didn’t have a chance to be the person he could be.
With the unknown meta at large, the team struggles in the aftermath. But they are together through it all. Iris even goes back to the support group for those who were taken into the mirror verse. Allegra joins as well, watching as Iris talks about overcoming the trauma of what they all went through.
Of course, things can’t be easy for Team Flash. Cisco is shocked when Caitlin comes to him with some news. Both she and Frost were able to separate themselves into two people!
