The Flash's Killer Frost Twist Fixes Caitlin's Story Problem - Screen Rant

The Flash’s new Killer Frost twist could be the Arrowverse’s solution to the show’s Caitlin Snow problem. For a while now, Caitlin’s current situation with Killer Frost has stood in the way of her being properly utilized in the Arrowverse series, but that could change if Danielle Panabaker’s two characters don’t have to share the same body anymore.

The other personality that inhibits Caitlin’s body was originally used as a villain, but over time, she developed into an ally and even a valuable member of Team Flash. In season 6, the two made an agreement that has mostly been to the benefit of Frost. To finally give Frost a chance to live her life, Caitlin has been allowing her to take control. In doing so, Frost gets to have a much more significant role in the story. This persisted throughout the season, but it looks like The Flash is going to do things differently in season 7. It was mentioned during The Flash season 7, episode 4, “Central City Strong” that Caitlin was experiencing painful headaches. The implication of this was revealed at the end of episode when a stunned Cisco (Carlos Valdez) saw Caitlin standing next to Killer Frost, a scenario that previously would have seemed impossible.

Unless this is a temporary problem that will be fixed by the end of episode 5, it’s possible this is a part of the long-term story that The Flash is giving Caitlin and Frost in season 7. The two being able to share the same scene in every episode would certainly lead to some interesting team interactions, but there’s another advantage to this change that’s worth mentioning. Caitlin and Frost being split apart means that Caitlin can finally get the screen-time she deserves again.

The road that The Flash took Killer Frost down in season 6 did great things for her character’s redemptive arc, but it came at an unfortunate cost to Panabaker’s original Arrowverse character. Their deal sidelined Caitlin, with The Flash often going entire episodes without using her. Not only did Frost fight alongside Barry (Grant Gustin) out in the field, but she was also seen working at S.T.A.R. Labs, a role that should have been reserved for the more scientific-minded Caitlin. The focus on the Frost personality kept Caitlin from being involved in a number of major stories for season 6, including Crisis on Infinite Earths.

Since the show wasn’t able to find a good balance between the two, it’s perhaps for the best that The Flash is moving in this direction. Splitting them apart means that instead of favoring one character, the series can make good use of both at the same time. This way, Caitlin and Frost can be equally important going forward. Hopefully, this twist will make it possible for The Flash to deliver an exciting new storyline for Caitlin in season 7, and one that finally lets her stand apart from Killer Frost.
