The Flash Movie Casts DCEU’s Supergirl | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

The DC Extended Universe casts Sasha Calle to play Supergirl, and she'll debut in Ezra Miller's solo The Flash movie. Warner Bros. and DC Films have spent the last several years trying to get a solo movie for the Scarlet Speedster off the ground. After losing multiple directors, IT's Andy Muschietti is firmly aboard to direct the DC event film. The movie has long been rumored to adapt the famous Flashpoint storyline in some aspect, and that will include The Flash featuring multiple DC characters.

DC made headlines in 2020 when it was announced that Michael Keaton was returning to play Batman in The Flash. His return signifies how the movie is exploring the possibilities of the multiverse, but it will still be connected to the main DCEU timeline too. Ben Affleck will also play Batman again in The Flash, and older iterations of the movie resulted in rumors about Aquaman or Wonder Woman appearing too. However, the latest DC superhero to join The Flash is Supergirl.

In a new Instagram post, Andy Muschietti announced that Supergirl is appearing in The Flash. Not only will she make her DCEU debut in the movie, but Sasha Calle has already been cast to play her. Calle is best known for her role in The Young and the Restless. Muschietti's video includes him revealing the news to Calle that she's secured the job and her emotional reaction. Check it out below:

Calle's addition to the DCEU as Supergirl comes right as Melissa Benoist's time leading Supergirl for The CW is coming to a close. WB and DC have been developing a Supergirl solo movie for the last few years, so that could finally start moving now that Calle has been cast. Calle is the second actress to play a live-action Supergirl on the big screen, with Helen Slater the only one to do so before in the 1984 Supergirl movie. This time, Supergirl will be played by a woman of color. In the announcement video, Muschietti did not say if Kara Zor-El will still go by Kara Danvers or have a different name.

It is not known what role Calle's character plays in The Flash, as the only set up for Supergirl in the DCEU came in Zack Snyder's movies. Since the Snyder-Verse is believed to be ending with Zack Snyder's Justice League, it is plausible that Supergirl's introduction here will not be tied to that mythology. After all, The Flash has a multiverse component to it, so Calle's Supergirl could come from an entirely different reality. Regardless of where she comes from, Supergirl is now becoming an official part of the DCEU and should be around for many years to come.
