A mystery villain from Barry’s early adventures as the Scarlet Speedster is poised to return at the beginning of The Flash season 7. Multiple existing villains have been teased, but this one in particular is from one of the show’s first seasons. Team Flash has had to deal with a number of villainous metahumans over the years, so there’s no shortage of possibilities when it comes to who this character could be.
Since “Crisis on Infinite Earths”, the Arrowverse has used the changes it made to the multiverse to its advantage by offering different takes on existing characters. The back half of The Flash season 6, for instance, recycled forgotten villains and also introduced new versions of familiar ones. Following the Crisis, the team found potential allies in old foes like Pied Piper and Gorilla Grodd. They also encountered new iterations of Turtle, Dr. Light, and Mirror Master, the latter of which being the threat that they’re currently dealing with going into The Flash season 7.
The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace revealed in May 2020 that another villain from Barry’s past is coming back in one of the first episodes of The Flash season 7 [via TV Insider]. The only clues he provided were that it was a character who hasn’t been seen in “many, many seasons” and that this person will have something to do with Eva McCulloch’s plan. The reveal that this person is from that far in the past indicates it’ll be a season 1 or season 2 antagonist. This detail eliminates from contention villains like King Shark and Weather Wizard, who haven’t been absent for that long.
Among the numerous possibilities are the Mist (Anthony Carrigan), Plastique (Kelly Frye), Everyman (Martin Novotny), Girder (Greg Finley), and Atom-Smasher (Adam Copeland), and Geomancer (Adam Stafford). All of these are characters who haven’t appeared past season 2. Some, like Girder and the Mist, were spotted in Cisco’s villain binder. Plastique and Atom-Smasher were killed off, but it could be that the Crisis changed their histories. Normally, the original Mirror Master – Grey Damon’s Sam Scudder – would be a candidate, but being someone who appeared late in The Flash season 3, he may not fit Wallace’s description.
Whoever this character is, it has to be someone who has a power Eva would find value in. She could be looking for someone who can help “save the world”, which is how Wallace described her new mission [via Comic Book]. Geomancer, who could create earthquakes, would be capable of causing massive destruction. Atom-Smasher has size-changing powers that would make him a powerful weapon. He’s from Earth-2, but he could have been moved to Earth-Prime by the Crisis. There’s also Cisco’s brother, Dante Ramon (Nicholas Gonzalez). The Flash season 7 could take inspiration from his Earth-2 counterpart and reimagine him as a new version of Rupture. With his vibe powers, he could be a big asset to Eva in her fight against Team Flash.
