Superman is FAST Enough To Time Travel Like The Flash - Screen Rant

There’s something inherently cool about seeing a superhero use another costumed do-gooder’s trademark weapon or gadget. Who doesn’t get a thrill watching Captain America go nuts with Thor’s hammer, or Batman wield a Green Lantern power ring, or Squirrel Girl wear Iron Man’s armor? In the pages of Action Comics #992 we get a glimpse of Superman using a device that has helped The Flash numerous times during his storied career: the Cosmic Treadmill.

In the issue, Superman is attempting to figure out whether the identity of the villainous Mister Oz is in fact that of his father, Jor-El. All signs are pointing to “yes” but Clark needs definitive proof, even if the truth will cause him to question his own identity and place in the universe. He first visits his Fortress of Solitude and interrogates the robot Kelex as to whether his master and creator, Jor-El, is Oz. Rejecting Kelex’s affirmative answer, Superman enlists the help of the Green Lantern Corp. He visits Salaak and Hal Jordan on Mogo (the sentient celestial Green Lantern) to view surveillance footage of Krypton’s destruction taken by the GL of that corresponding sector.

In the video he sees his own rocket escape the dying planet, but before he’s able to see if another craft (possibly containing Jor-El) was also launched before Krypton exploded, the footage cuts out. It appears to have been tampered with, leaving the Man of Steel with only one other option: to travel back and see for himself what happened. He flies to the Justice League’s Watchtower, hops on Flash’s Cosmic Treadmill, and sprints into the past.

It’s not exactly surprising to see that Big Blue has the speed needed to use the Monarch of Motion’s personal time machine. Beginning back in a 1967 issue of Superman where the two heroes competed against each other as part of a benefit race for the United Nations, these two have been in a constant competition to see who was faster than the other.  Since these contests are usually fairly close, it’s clear Clark must have a decent enough motor on him in order to reach the speeds the cosmic contraption needs to catapult its user through time and space.

The novelty of seeing him booting it on the Cosmic Treadmill, a device that’s as ludicrous as its name, is well worth the cover price of the issue its featured in. And you can’t help but wonder, what would Superman look like throwing a batarang or attempting to do some tricks with Wonder Woman’s Lasso of Truth?
