The Flash Is Teasing A Major Team Change (It Needs To Happen) - Screen Rant

The Flash season 8, episode 14, titled “Funeral for a Friend,” teases that a big change is coming for Team Flash. Exactly what it will be hasn’t been confirmed, but how the fight with Blockbuster played out made it clear that Barry’s current strategy isn’t working. In the aftermath of Frost’s death, the time has come for Barry and his allies to reevaluate Team Flash, and that scenario coming to pass just became a stronger possibility.

Frost’s death has irreversibly changed Team Flash. They took a hit in more ways than one when she sacrificed herself to beat Deathstorm. In addition to the devastation experienced by her teammates, the group has lost yet another valued metahuman ally. They’ve already had to say goodbye to the Elongated Man and Vibe. With Frost dead, the only metahumans left for Barry to turn to are Cecile (Danielle Nicolet) and Allegra (Kayla Compton). Though neither typically joins him in the field and aren’t technically superheroes, the two assisted in Barry’s battles with Blockbuster in “Funeral for a Friend.”

Barry not hesitating to take Cecile and Allegra into combat with him on both occasions indicates that this is the group’s current on-the-field roster. That’s a surprising choice, given that Cecile and Allegra don’t wear costumes and aren’t do anything to protect their identities. The Flash making a change to this situation – in one form or another – was set up when one of Iris’ reporters suggested that they investigate the Flash’s allies. This comment raises a concern that Iris – or a different team member – will eventually have to address. Team Flash either needs to change its roster or give Allegra and possibly Cecile superhero identities.

Even though Frost’s death has made Team Flash short one metahuman hero, it doesn’t make sense for Allegra and Cecile to continue helping Barry Allen in the same way they did in The Flash season 8, episode 14. Either could easily have been recognized during the battle, which is an issue that needs to be fixed very soon. That can happen if Team Flash makes Allegra a costume, gives her a codename, and turns her into a proper superhero partner for the Scarlet Speedster. Alternatively, it can have Barry go back to his days of flying solo or perhaps add a new metahuman to the team, like Mark Blaine’s Chillblaine.

Regardless of what solution The Flash season 8 chooses, it’s impossible for Team Flash to be what it was a few episodes ago. After all, Barry’s go-to ally in the field has been Frost for a long time now, and that era just ended. And since what they’re doing now can’t work for long, Team Flash needs to quickly find a new and better way to challenge their metahuman opponents.
