The Flash Showrunner Teases More Familiar Faces in Season 8 | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace has confirmed that Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne won't be the only long-absent character to return in Season 8.

The Flash Season 8 returned to The CW on Wednesday, March 9 with its sixth episode, "Impulsive Excessive Disorder." The season went on hiatus following the five-episode "Armageddon" event, which aired from Nov. 16, 2021 to Dec. 14, 2021. "Impulsive Excessive Disorder" not only featured the return of John Wesley Shipp as the original Flash, Jay Garrick, but also Cosnett as Eddie, the latter of whom has been dead since the end of Season 1.

During an interview with TVLine, Wallace was asked if viewers can expect more returning stars from The Flash's past. "There's one I can hint at because we just filmed with him… in fact, today we're filming with an old friend we haven't seen in several years who I'm very excited to have back," he replied. "I'm not gonna say who, but I'm very happy this particular character who hasn't been with us since Season 1 and we haven't seen for a while has come back."

Wallace continued, "We're trying to do a lot of more of that here in Season 8. It reminds the audience of what a wonderful cast we not only we have now, but also through the years. We've had so many incredible talents come through, so let's revisit some of those folks. So it's not just Rick Cosnett, it's a couple of other people from the past. One of whom I can definitely say will be back towards the end of the season."

To Wallace's point, a number of actors have bid farewell to The Flash over the years. Keiynan Lonsdale, who played Wally West/Kid Flash, departed the show as a series regular after Season 4 and hasn't been seen at all since Season 6. More recently, longtime series regulars Tom Cavanagh and Carlos Valdes departed The Flash after Season 7, though Cavanagh did return to guest star as Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash during "Armageddon." There are a number of other actors who haven't been seen on The Flash in quite a while, such as Clancy Brown, Roger Howarth, Malese Jow, Richard Brooks and Ciara Renée, just to name a few.

New episodes of The Flash Season 8 air Wednesdays on The CW.
