The Flash Confirms He is Way Dumber Than Fans Would Believe - Screen Rant

Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Flash #780

The latest issue of The Flash confirms that Wally West made a pretty dumb mistake, one that could threaten an entire world in the DC Universe. Tying into DC's crossover event The War for Earth-3, Amanda Waller has ordered her new speedster Johnny Quick to steal one of the most powerful artifacts from the Flash Museum. As a result, Wally West admits that he and the rest of the Flash Family should have had stronger safeguards in place for the sake of the entire multiverse.

Previous chapters of The War for Earth-3 have seen Amanda Waller going rogue, having formed an army of metahumans from across the multiverse to invade Earth-3. Home to the Crime Syndicate (the evil version of the Justice League) Waller intends to liberate Earth-3 using methods she never could back on Earth-0. However, she's currently working alongside the Crime Syndicate most likely as a means to gain their trust before she inevitably betrays them. That being said, Waller's actions have caught the attention of Rick Flag's Suicide Squad who intends to bring Waller in for her crimes on Earth-0. Furthermore, it's also been confirmed that the Teen Titans will soon be involved in the war as well.

As seen in The Flash #780 from Jeremy Adams and Will Conrad, Waller sends Earth-3's evil Flash known as Johnny Quick back to Earth-0 to steal the Cosmic Treadmill. While it's unclear exactly why she needs the powerful device built by Barry Allen (which allows speedsters to travel through time and space), it's obvious she should be one of the last people in the DC Universe to have her hands on it. However, it's not as though Wally West and the Flash Family made it hard to get ahold of. Although a fake copy is on display in the Flash Museum for public viewing, the real one is simply a floor below and primed for the taking. While Rick Flag sent the Mirror Master to stop Quick, both Wally and the classic Rogue failed in their efforts. To make matters worse, Wally reveals that the Flash Family once received an offer from Nightwing to hide the treadmill in the Batcave, one of the most protected places in the entire DC Universe. As such, it seems pretty dumb to leave such a powerful item unattended and largely unprotected.

Seeing as how the Cosmic Treadmill is only really useful for speedsters, it makes sense that a rogue speedster would one day try and steal it to use its power for their own ends. As such, why weren't safeguards put in place to prevent the Cosmic Treadmill from being used or taken by anyone but Wally West (or Barry Allen)? Furthermore, putting the powerful device somewhere far safer and less public than the Flash Museum (like the Batcave) seems like common sense, especially if there's already a fake treadmill for patrons to look at. There's just no logical justification for why The Flash turned down Nightwing's offer.

While the Flash agrees with Dick Grayson now, it's only because the Cosmic Treadmill was being threatened (the definition of hindsight being 20/20). Now, Johnny Quick has Barry Allen's most powerful invention and has likely brought it back to Waller for the two of them to use as she sees fit. While Wally West may be the Fastest Man Alive as the Flash, leaving the Cosmic Treadmill unprotected and not in the Batcave was a pretty dumb move all things considered.
