The Flash Finally Understands How Powerful Barry Allen Is - Screen Rant

Warning: The following contains SPOILERS for The Flash season 8 premiere.

The Flash season 8 premiere leveled-up Barry Allen significantly, with the self-described Fastest Man Alive proving himself worthy of the title for the first time in a long while. Many superhero fans have criticized recent seasons of The Flash for not doing a good job of displaying just how powerful Barry Allen is or going out of their way to hamper him so that the villains he faced could present a plausible threat. It appears that the writers of The Flash have taken these complaints to heart, because "Armageddon, Part 1" conveyed just how amazing The Flash can be while still challenging the Scarlet Speedster.

The first present-day scene of the crossover event Armageddon found Barry Allen slowing down, for once, taking some time off to catch up with Caitlin Snow over a cup of coffee. As they chatted, Barry got a police alert on his phone about two trains being on a collision course 50 miles south of Keystone City. Barry left to deal with the problem and by the time he returned the local news was reporting that, despite both trains exploding on impact, there were no fatalities thanks to The Flash evacuating both trains prior to the moment of impact.

Caitlin was impressed, noting that Barry must have emptied both trains in 20 seconds. "12, actually," Barry replied modestly before asking Caitlin to taste her coffee, revealing that he had also taken the time to retrieve the oat milk she had asked for earlier. This was an amusing capstone that displayed just how versatile Barry Allen's speedster powers are while affirming that, for all his power and ability, he's still the same good-hearted soul who tries to take care of his friends when he isn't saving lives.

The Flash and Jack from Royal Flush Gang

Another scene in "Armageddon, Part 1," further showcased just how powerful Barry Allen has become and that he's capable of fighting multiple metahuman villains at once. Barry determined that the train collision had been set up as a distraction by the Royal Flush Gang, covering up a theft from one of the trains. Barry tracked the villains to their hideout and offered them a chance to surrender, which the foursome declined. Certainly the odds seemed to favor the Royal Flush Gang, as their leader, Queen, was a psychic telepath who could predict a person's actions at the speed of thought. Thankfully, the scene that followed avoided the common Arrowverse powers problem where the heroes didn't use their abilities to their fullest in order to draw out a storyline.

The Flash proved to be faster than the speed of thought and casually walked between the Royal Flush Gang members with a grin on his face, moving them so that their attacks would target each other instead of him. After that, it was a simple matter to fit them all with power-dampening handcuffs. When Queen protested that she had read his mind and seen what he had planned to do, The Flash replied "You can read minds, but I can think at super speed," and revealed that he had changed his mind faster than Queen could perceive his new plan. While this scene didn't tie into the larger story of the Armageddon crossover event, it did prove that The Flash had been given a significant power upgrade and that the series' writers will not be holding Barry Allen back any longer.
