Kiersey Clemons will play Iris West in The Flash, reprising her DCEU role from Justice League. Clemons was cut from the theatrical release of Justice League, but she will appear in the Snyder Cut on HBO Max. She joins a Flash cast that currently includes Ezra Miller as Barry Allen, Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, and Michael Keaton, also as Batman, stepping back into the role for the first time in almost three decades.
Though not much has been revealed about The Flash movie so far, it looks like it will pull primarily from the comics’ famous Flashpoint storyline. That would see Barry Allen jumping between different timelines and probably meeting Keaton’s Batman in one of them. With the original plan for the DCEU somewhat scattered in the wake of Justice League’s disappointing reception, it’s unclear how The Flash could set up future projects or how it will tie into other planned films like Aquaman 2.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Kiersey Clemons is coming back to play Iris West in The Flash. Despite being a major figure in the Flash comics and the main love interest of Barry Allen, Clemons’s Iris was cut from Justice League before its theatrical release. She’ll now finally get a proper theatrical debut in The Flash, officially bringing the character to the DCEU.
Iris West has long been a mainstay of The Flash’s stories, and it’s only right for her to return to a prominent role in the hero’s solo film. The CW’s The Flash series has featured Iris as a main character since the beginning, played by Candice Patton. Throughout many different plotlines and alternate timelines in the comics, Iris West has played a range of roles, and it should be interesting to see how exactly she fits into The Flash when it comes out.
If The Flash truly is pulling from Flashpoint as its main inspiration, there are many crazy and dark places the movie could go. The DCEU has been moving steadily toward more of a multiverse model – as evidenced by alternate reality films like Joker and The Batman – and the return of Keaton’s Batman opens up a whole other world of past film adaptations to pull from. Ezra Miller’s Flash has also appeared in the Arrowverse Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, so there’s even a chance Grant Gustin's Barry Allen could show up in the movie. All will be revealed when The Flash releases in 2022.
