The Flash season 8 sped onto The CW on Tuesday, Nov. 16 with a crossover event titled “Armageddon.”
We’d left Team Flash on a high note at the end of season 7 but, true to form, the joy the characters had been feeling didn’t last long. Once again Central City was plunged into danger with the world hanging in the balance.
For five episodes, Barry and the team navigate an impending apocalypse that’ll see the world burn before their eyes if they can’t stop it. Though that’s not their only problem. An alien named Despero has his own role to play in “Armageddon.”
Declaring himself the Earth’s protector, he’ll go to great lengths to ensure the planet survives. His tactics, however, will see him clashing with Team Flash in more than one all-out brawl with the fate of life as they know it on the line.
Now that the event has finished, fans should prepare for decisions made during “Armageddon” to have an affect on the rest of the season as its main plots are introduced.
Here’s what more we know about the rest of The Flash season 8 including when the show returns to The CW in 2022, the Netflix release date of new episodes, and what to expect from the season moving forward.
The Flash season 8 Netflix release date
All five episodes of the “Armageddon” event are available to stream now on The CW app and cwtv.com. New episodes of The Flash season 8 will resume airing on Wednesday, March 9 at 8 p.m. ET. That’s a night change, so mark your calendars.
Netflix US subscribers will have to wait until summer 2022 for the new season to land on the platform. We’ll keep you posted on the exact release date but season 8 likely won’t drop on Netflix until July, eight days after its finale airs on The CW.
Next day streaming of The Flash season 8 is available to Netflix subscribers who aren’t in the US. International versions of the streamer currently have five episodes of season 8. New episodes will begin dropping on the platform on Thursday, March 10.

The Flash season 8 synopsis
Now that “Armageddon” has finished, the season will return to a focus on Iris’ time sickness. In the final episodes of season 7, Iris began passing in and out of temporal planes. While Deon aka The Still Force was able to stabilize her for the time being, showrunner Eric Wallace told TVLine that the team would be in it for the long haul in terms of finding a solution.
Solving Iris’ time sickness is a huge, huge part of the entire season, and it will take all season to solve that. And that will have big ramifications for Barry and Iris’ relationship and marriage.
Team Flash always manages to find some way to counteract the forces working against them, but Barry wasn’t wrong when he said that trouble seems to always follow him and his family. Episode 6 of the season showcases that clearly with Bart and Nora making a return that involves yet another time flux.
We don’t know yet whether they’re really the ones who messed up the timeline or if the events of “Armageddon” have a hand in what went wrong, but we can’t wait to find out.
