Flash Has the One Power Batman Would Actually Want | Screen Rant - Screen Rant

Warning: contains spoilers for The Flash #774!

While The Flash has multiple powers, all derived from his amazingly-fast super-speed brought on by the Speed Force, there's one power that Batman would actually want more than any other. The Dark Knight famously has no powers or superhuman abilities - his training, intellect and vast Wayne family fortune allow him to go toe-to-toe with his many super-powered foes. But in The Flash #774, written by Jeremy Adams with art by Christian Duce and colors by Hi-Fi, the Flash displays the exactly power perfect for Batman - and demonstrates why he would want such an ability.

In the beginning of the issue, Wally West's daughter, Iris "Irey" West, is preparing to go to a father-daughter dance alongside Wally - despondent and nervous that his daughter is growing up and life is perhaps moving too fast. But the patrons at the dance are all sleeping, having been doused with a gas courtesy of the new villain Doctor Nightmare, who seeks revenge against the Terrifitech company for decrying his experiments as "dangerous." Despite Wally's warnings, an adventurous Irey decides to fight the threat - but neither West has their speed powers.

After surmising that Doctor Nightmare is the villain who put the citizens to sleep, Wally wonders why neither he nor Irey is similarly affected. Irey cites a well-known side-effect of using the Speed Force: a fast metabolism. "The gas "...slowed us down. But that's it. It's just like how sugar doesn't really affect me like other kids." Irey may not know it at the moment, but she just pointed out one of the best possible powers for Batman.

The Flash's metabolism allows him to walk through Doctor Nightmare's gas without being knocked out at all. Consider the fact that three of Batman's well-known enemies - the Joker, Scarecrow and Poison Ivy - all have various chemical-based methods of knocking out their victims. If Batman's metabolism worked the same way as the Flash's, he would have an immediate advantage against his rogues gallery. Furthermore, it would work to Batman and the Flash's advantage if they were to fight against each other's enemies; Bruce Wayne's gadgets would make short work of Wally's many enemies in the Flash's rogues gallery who use technology such as freeze rays and flamethrowers, and Wally would be entirely immune to Joker venom and Scarecrow's fear toxin.

Unlike other characters who gained new abilities throughout their history (like the Fantastic Four's Sue Storm), Batman's lack of powers has stuck with him ever since his debut in Detective Comics #27 in 1939. Bruce has occasionally thought about what he would do with powers - infamous thinking about wielding a Green Lantern ring in All-Star Batman and Robin - but most writers elect to keep Bruce as human as possible. Nevertheless, Batman acquiring the Flash's ability to withstand chemical attacks remains an interesting prospect.
