The National Weather Service in Mount Holly has issued a flash flood watch and a severe thunderstorm warning for the Princeton region. The flash flood watch is in effect until 2 a.m. Sunday. The severe thunderstorm warning is in effect until about 2 p.m. A thunderstorm watch is in effect for the region until 11 p.m.
At 1:22 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Lumberville, about 19 miles northwest of Trenton, and was moving northeast at about 10 miles per hour. Locations affected could include Princeton, Flemington, Clinton, Pennington, New Hope, Hopewell, Stockton, Sergeantsville, and Lambertville.
According to the National Weather Service, wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour and hail are possible. The wind could damage roofs, siding, trees, and power lines. For your protection, move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building.
Torrential rainfall is occurring with the storm and could lead to flash flooding. Rainfall totals of one to two inches are anticipated in a short amount of time, with amounts up to three to five inches possible in some areas.
Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways or ignore road barriers. Turn around for your safety and the safety of others.
Many local events have been canceled for Saturday evening. Please check to see if your event is still being held before you head out. The Blue Curtain performance at Pettoranello Gardens has been postponed until Sunday evening.
