The Flash Brings Back the Council of Wells Following Crisis on Infinite Earths - CBR - Comic Book Resources

WARNING: The following contains major spoilers for "All's Wells That Ends Wells," The Flash Season 7 premiere.

The Flash made its triumphant return with its Season 7 premiere, "All's Wells That Ends Wells," picking up immediately following the events of last season, which was shortened due to the coronavirus pandemic. The episode was filled with hilarious and heartfelt moments, and even included the return of one of the most important groups in the multiverse, the Council of Wells.

Since the start of The Flash, Harrison Wells has been a valuable member of the S.T.A.R. Labs team, regardless of the version. Of course, the first Wells turned out to be Eobard Thawne, but since then, different versions of the character from across the multiverse have helped Team Flash become what it is today. The list includes Earth-2's Harry Wells, who was a mainstay until his fight with The Thinker caused him to lose his intellect, H.R. Wells, a sci-fi writer who was hoping to find his next big story on Earth-1, Sherloque Wells, a multiversal detective who took some time to warm up to Team Flash and most recently, Nash Wells, the man who broke the Anti-Monitor out of his prison prior to "Crisis On Infinite Earths."

The Council of Wells made its first appearnce in Season 4's "When Harry Met Harry...," just after Team Flash failed to identify the Thinker's identity. Since then, the group has consisted of a rotating cast, with its most notable members including Harry Wells, Harrison Wolfgang Wells, Wells 2.0, H.P Wells, H. Lothario Wells and the newly introduced Harrison Orson Wells, a version of the character that took the place of renowned actor, writer and director Orson Welles on his Earth.

However, after the events of "Crisis" destroyed much of the multiverse, nearly every version of Wells was absorbed into Nash. While this proved dangerous last season when Reverse-Flash almost took control of Nash, it became helpful during the premiere episode because it brought back the Council of Wells. "All's Wells That Ends Wells" saw the group reform within Nash's mind to provide insight on how to charge the Artificial Speed Force. Unfortunately, they came to the conclusion that in order to charge the device, Nash would have to sacrifice himself.

Nash was hesitant at first, but after attempting to figure out a way around backfired, he decided to transfer every version of Wells into Barry momentarily for a final goodbye. In the closing moments of the episode, Nash accepts his fate and transfers his energy into the ASF. As he disintegrates, the device reaches maximum power, giving Barry his speed back and guaranteeing the Flash will always exist with Wells at his side.

Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes and Tom Cavanagh.
