When Does The Flash Season 7 Premiere? | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

The Flash Season 6 featured Barry Allen and company dealing with the villainous plans of Eva McCulloch, aka Mirror Master, who had been trapped for years in a mirror dimension. She escaped, swapping places with Iris West-Allen to get revenge on her husband, Joseph Carver. Carver controlled an organization called Black Hole, which combined advanced technology along with metahuman assassins in order to make exorbitant amounts of money. All of the season's plotting and escalation ended with a massive confrontation between the superpowered killers and Team Flash, resulting in Carver's death. Eva then took control of her former company, leaving the season on a sour note with the villain undefeated and Iris still trapped in the mirror world. So, with the future of most of Team Flash up in the air, let's look at when fans can expect the return of the Scarlet Speedster.

Season 6 ending with the main villain of the season undefeated is a new trend for the show, as each season of The Flash is usually defined by a different antagonist. Season 6 had two villains instead, and it looks like Season 7 will follow suit by splitting time between Mirror Master and Godspeed. It's unknown what this new approach will add to the season, especially because it leaves less time for each enemy to develop and feel whole. However, the show's writers were almost certainly left without a choice, as shooting for Season 6 was cut short because of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Filming has since resumed, and Season 7 is coming to The CW on Tuesday, February 23 at 8 pm ET. It airs ahead of the Arrowverse's new show Superman and Lois, which will follow the Tyler Hoechlin incarnation of the Man of Steel that first appeared on Supergirl. It will keep the same time and air each Tuesday thereafter, although the ongoing filming restrictions will result in a shortened 19-episode season.

The biggest hit for the newest season is the absence of Hartley Sawyer, who was fired in June after the discovery of some racist tweets the actor had written years prior. This means Team Flash will have to go without Ralph Dibny, aka The Elongated Man, who had become a mainstay of the group. His love interest Sue Dearbon will remain onboard, and it'll be interesting to see where the show takes her storyline in the absence of Ralph, who had been her main foil up until this point. Danielle Panabaker was also absent in part due to the birth of her first child, although she will return to play the role of Caitlin Snow, aka Frost, later in Season 7.

With Arrow having ended its run and Supergirl going into its final season, The Flash is the only member of the Arrowverse's initial trilogy left standing. With Season 7 set to up the ante using characters like Godspeed, The CW certainly hopes that this next outing will see the Scarlet Speedster's show return to form.

Airing Tuesdays at 8 p.m. on The CW, The Flash stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Tom Cavanagh, Jesse L. Martin and Danielle Nicolet. The series returns Tuesday, Feb. 23.
