Flood, Flash Flood Warnings in Effect as Heavy Rain Drenches DC Area - NBC4 Washington

Flash flood and flood warnings are in effect Thursday evening in parts of the D.C. area as heavy rain soaked the region.

The flash flood warning is in effect in southwest D.C., Arlington County, parts of Fairfax County and the cities of Alexandria and Falls Church.

High water is causing issues for commuters on a section of George Washington Parkway in Alexandria, Virginia.

Woodburn Road and some surrounding areas in Fairfax, Virginia, are flooded. Video shows high water completely blocking a large section of the road. As always, if you’re driving and see high water: Turn around, don’t drown.

Video posted to Twitter shows water streaming down from the ceiling of the Foggy Bottom Metro Station in D.C. like waterfalls, flooding the platform as riders try to walk through it.

A flood warning is in effect in D.C.; parts of Montgomery, Prince George’s, Carroll, Frederick and Howard counties in Maryland; and parts of Fairfax and Prince William counties and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church in Virginia. 

Old Town Alexandria and surrounding areas appear to be experiencing more than the typical amount of flooding.

A flash flood watch was issued earlier for most of the D.C. area.
