The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Weather Service have issued a flash flood watch for Franklin, Hampshire, Hampden, Norfolk, Middlesex and Worcester counties beginning at about 4 p.m. Sunday afternoon and running through 8 p.m. Monday evening.
Meteorologists predict rain to continue across the watch area, heavy at times, with total rainfalls between 1 and 2 inches. Some areas may receive more.
As soils are saturated from recent rainfall, additional heavy rains could cause localized flash flooding, especially in urban areas and poor drainages areas. Smaller streams and creeks may fill quickly and rise out of their banks.
