Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Flash #770
In the latest issue of DC Comics' The Flash, a very overwhelmed Wally West just faced Adolf Hitler...who had superpowers. In the latest Flash series, Wally has been going on a journey through time just after he decided to retire. If the past few issues have been any indication, the Speed Force clearly isn't done with him, forcing Wally to help correct some problems across the time stream. Now, the Speed Force has put the Flash face-to-face with the Führer, but Wally's mind has been put into the body of Jay Garrick, the original Fastest Man Alive.
In the previous two issues of The Flash, Wally had announced his intentions to retire, asking Barry Allen's Flash to remove his speed so that he would no longer bear the responsibility of being a hero. However, the Speed Force whisked Wally away before Barry could so, putting the former Kid Flash's consciousness into the body in one of the first speedsters during the prehistoric era. After evading a vicious speedster dinosaur that had been given power from the unstable Speed Force, the dinosaur exploded, and Wally was then sent to the future, being put into the body of Impulse, Barry Allen's grandson. Again, an alien Dominator had grown to massive size due to the struggling Speed Force, and Wally had to prevent the imminent explosion.
Now, Flash #770 from Jeremy Adams, Jack Herbert, Brandon Peterson, Kevin Maguire, Michael Atiyeh, and Steve Wands sees Wally in Jay Garrick's body during WWII. Prior to Wally's arrival, Jay had been tasked by the president to work with the Ray to secure the Spear of Destiny. However, the original Flash and the Ray were captured by the Third Reich, and the Spear of Destiny was delivered to Adolf Hitler. However, the unstable Speed Force resulted in the Führer getting even more power, believing himself to be virtually unstoppable. However, Wally was soon dropped into Jay's body to fix the wild situation.
Thankfully, Wally and the Ray were able to stop Hitler before he exploded, using the Spear of Destiny to absorb and contain the blast, while presumedly taking away his new powers, which is an extremely good thing. For a few moments during DC's version of WWII, Adolf Hitler was actually as powerful as he believed himself to be, and he would have no doubt used his new power and the Spear to unleash untold horrors on the rest of the world.
In any case, Wally's time in WWII was certainly a wild adventure that saw him preventing a very terrible outcome for all parties involved. By the issue's end, Wally is off to the next speedster for his mind to inhabit, leaving a fairly confused Jay Garrick in his wake. However, that next speedster Wally West will become is going to be absolutely nuts, as it's none other than The Reverse-Flash, surrounded by an array of villains in the Hall of Doom. Here's hoping The Flash will be able to keep his cool as much as he did with a super-powered Führer.
