The Flash just explained how Batman can keep up with speedsters, even without super speed or any other powers or tech. And while it’s been kept a secret from readers, the Justice League seems to have been aware how it works for a while.

Continuing the ongoing seasonal storyline, Justice League #58: Endless Winter Part 5 is written by Andy Lanning and Ron Marz, with art by Xermanico and Marco Santucci. As the League takes on the Frost King, Batman is sporting his new arctic-specific suit, featuring a coat, shades, and a mask that covers his mouth. While Green Lantern attempts to take on the ice giant, even he doesn’t pose much of a threat on his own. In their desperation, the League has to regroup and remember the true definition of teamwork.

Flash casually lets it slip as they go into battle that he carries Batman through the speed force whenever the League is in a hurry to get somewhere. Based on the other League members' non-reactions, it seems safe to assume they have been in on this secret for a while. However, the moment isn’t just played as a gag. Batman goes on to elaborate that this is precisely the reason the superheroes stick together. Just then, the Justice League charges toward the Frost King, ready to give him all they’ve got. The scene is both hilarious and proves that without just one of the Leaguers, the team lose a vital part of what qualifies them to take on the threats that they do. Their unity depends on making use of their individual differences.

Although, it certainly seems like Batman has the most to benefit from the other heroes regarding their power sets. But still, even though Batman can’t physically keep up with speedsters, the Flash can’t always keep up with the Dark Knight's intellect and detective skills. This might remind fans of how Superman has carried Batman from time to time when they need to fly somewhere. Usually, that is an image that is played as a gag, but it makes complete sense for the Man of Steel to carry the Dark Knight when it’s their most convenient method of travel.

In any case, the Flash carrying Batman around to run through the speed force feels like something readers could’ve assumed with head canon a long time ago. There’s no need for panels to feature every time Barry Allen takes a millisecond to pick up the Caped Crusader. It would probably make Batman feel a little less threatening each time it happened, and weirdly give the Flash an edge over him.
