A flash-flood warning for the area of the Grizzly Creek fire scar has shut down Interstate 70 through Glenwood Canyon.

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction issued the warning at 4:14 p.m. Friday, and it is in effect until 7:15 p.m.
Thunderstorms have been producing heavy rains in the area, and flooding is expected, the weather service said.
“Excessive rainfall over the burn scar will result in debris flow moving through the Glenwood Canyon area,” according to the warning. “The debris flow can consist of rock, mud, vegetation and other loose materials.”
The canyon has been shut down to traffic several times this summer because of damaging slides. Weather warnings prompt shutdowns for safety precautions.
The state Department of Transportation announced the shutdown of the highway, which is closed in both directions between Dotsero and Glenwood Springs.
Westbound motorists are advised to detour at Silverthorne and travel north on Colorado 9 to Kremmling then west on U.S. 40 to Steamboat Springs. From Craig, head south on Colorado 13 toward Rifle and got back onto Interstate 70. Eastbound motorists should reverse the route.
