Why DCEU's The Flash Has Two Versions of Batman | CBR - CBR - Comic Book Resources

The DC Extended Universe's upcoming The Flash film is currently slated to feature two different versions of Bruce Wayne/Batman, as both Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck are slated to appear as the character. For his part, Keaton hasn't appeared as the Caped Crusader since Tim Burton's Batman Returns in 1992, while Affleck stepped away from the role following the poor critical and commercial performance of Justice League in 2017. However, there may be some asking just how two different versions of Batman can appear in The Flash, and that's just the question we're going to answer in this new video.

Storywise, the addition of two version of Batman makes perfect sense, as The Flash is seemingly set to adapt Geoff Johns and Andy Kubert's Flashpoint crossover, which released in 2011. This crossover was absolutely integral to the DC Universe in the comics, as it led to a bunch of massive changes in the universe. This seems to be, in some way, related to just what's going on with two different Batmen.

Currently, the future of the DCEU looks brighter than ever, with projects such as The BatmanThe Flash and Black Adam looking likely to finally release in the coming years. The Flash, for its part, has languished for quite a while in development hell, going through a number of different directors and writers over the years. At this time, it's unknown just what the future of Batman in the DCEU will be following The Flash, though, and it's unclear to whom the cowl will fall.
