The Flash: Every Villain Who Could Return In Season 7 (& How) - Screen Rant

The Flash season 7 will feature several villainous faces from past seasons of the Arrowverse drama. One of the biggest aspects of The Flash has been the titular hero’s enormous rogues’ gallery that has jumped from panel to screen. In the last 6 years, several members of the Scarlet Speedster’s villainous roster has come to life, some have lasted longer than others. The first couple of seasons followed the metahuman-of-the-week format as multiple DC villains, both minor and major, tried to take on the fastest man alive.  While some were one-offs, a handful of them has ended up returning time after time.

However, with Crisis on Infinite Earths being a new beginning for the Arrowverse, it rebooted the franchise’s continuity. As Earth-Prime got created, the world’s timeline was now a completely new one compared to the one of Earth-1. Even Cisco Ramon points out in The Flash winter premiere that everything has changed while also presenting his “Who’s Who?” binder. That confirmed that a lot of the past Flash villains have had their history altered as a result of the Crisis. But the upside is that it allows The Flash to bring back past villains in a new light.

Danielle Nicolet, who plays Cecile Horton, recently revealed that fans can expect to see some “fan-favorites” in The Flash season 7 while keeping the identities under wrap. So far, the only confirmed foe that will have some presence in one way or another is Reverse-Flash who was supposed to have a huge reveal in the original season finale. But due to the global pandemic, The Flash season 6 never finished their remaining episodes, but it appears they’ll be factored into the seventh season in one way or another. While there are several candidates that could be returning for an episode or two, these are some of them that might appear in The Flash season 7.

Captain Cold

One of the biggest villains that Barry Allen has gone up against is Leonard Snart, a.k.a. Captain Cold, who took an interesting turn in the Arrowverse. After The Flash season 1, Wentworth Miller moved over to Legends of Tomorrow where his villain got reshaped into a hero (or anti-hero) before Captain Cold was killed off in the season 1 finale. While he died a hero, a pre-Legends version of Snart appeared the following season who was still on a villainous path. Despite Miller having declared that he was done playing Snart in the Arrowverse, he did lend his voice in Crisis on Infinite Earths, perhaps teasing the possibility of being open to returning. So far Snart hasn't been referenced a lot on Earth-Prime post-Crisis, leaving the door open for a surprise undoing of his death. Captain Cold will always be one of The Flash's best villains, and with someone as tremendous as Miller, it's not out of the question for a new version of Snart to appear without hurting the events of Legends of Tomorrow season 1.

The Trickster

In the Arrowverse, there are two incarnations of the Trickster, and one that hasn't been seen in quite a while is Mark Hamill's James Jesse. While his son Axel Walker did appear in The Flash season 4, it was revealed that James had escaped prison and has been MIA ever since. It has now almost been over 3 years since Hamill guest-starred as the Joker-like villain on The CW drama. The term "fan-favorite" is absolutely relevant for the original Trickster as it was a big deal when Hamill was revealed to be reprising the villain he played on The Flash series back in the '90s on CBS. Since Crisis on Infinite Earths left a lot of villains' statuses up in the air, there are a lot of ways James could return, perhaps to go after Team Flash for getting his son sent to jail again.

Gorilla Grodd

One of the big fan-favorites that showed up quickly in The Flash season 7 after Crisis was Gorilla Grodd. When he and Barry face each other again, Grodd explained that he wasn't the same villain Flash fought in the pre-Crisis timeline. The Multiverse event changed him, as the episode essentially redeems Grodd and puts on a new path. However, with some villains, they never change completely, and Grodd is definitely someone who could easily become a foe once more. Since Gorilla City now exists on Earth-Prime, that could pave the way for Grodd having an army to lead if he ever chooses to take on Team Flash again.

Abra Kadabra

While he only appeared in one episode in The Flash season 3, Abra Kadabra is one of the bigger Flash villains in the comic books. Given that Abra established that he and Barry have been enemies for a long time in the future, there are a lot of directions they can take with him if he returns to the present time. Since the future that he came from is likely to have been rewritten as a result of Crisis, The Flash season 7 could re-introduce him with a new take. Abra is one of the villains that is listed in Cisco's "Who's Who?" binder, meaning that there has obviously been some history between Team Flash and him. Perhaps this Abra is no longer from the future and actually exists in the current timeline while still wielding magic (or techno-magic.)

King Shark

Grodd isn't the only huge monster-villain that The Flash has taken on during the show's run. One of the biggest villains that the show has done, from a VFX standpoint, is King Shark who has had numerous appearances throughout the seasons. While Shark had a very definitive conclusion in The Flash season 5, that doesn't mean that his story is over. While his human-ego seemingly helped King Shark be redeemed to some degree, there are villains that sometimes lose their redemptions by becoming foes again. His name was also brought up in Cisco's binder, meaning that King Shark could also have gotten a new Earth-Prime history because of Crisis.

Black Flash

The-Flash-Black-Flash

While many of Flash's speedster foes have come and gone, some are not always gone forever. With Reverse-Flash still seemingly around and Godspeed set to return next season, there is another one that The Flash could bring back. While Hunter Zolomon's arc as Zoom was done in The Flash season 2, the villain evolved into Black Flash, who was killed off by Killer Frost in the third season. But given that Black Flash represents Death in the Speedster mythology, it's probably not that hard for him to find a way to come back. Since the show hasn't really utilized him a lot, The Flash season 7 could factor him in as the Speed Force (eventually) is recreated, however Barry does it.

Mirror Master I

Last season, Eva McCulloch was introduced as the villain for the second half of The Flash season 6 as a gender-bent version of the second Mirror Master. However, before Eva became the bigger villain of the Mirrorverse, there was the original Mirror Master: Sam Scudder. While he hasn't been on the show since the third season, the Mirrorverse arc will be wrapped early in The Flash season 7. His partner Rosa Dillon a.k.a. The Top is making a return which means that Sam might not be far behind, especially as the current Mirror Master's arc gets wrapped up.

While these are some of the past Flash villains that could return, there are many more that the seventh season could go after. The Flash is currently set to premiere in late February and very little has so far been revealed about what's coming up after the Mirror Master saga is over. But with the tease that former foes are coming back, anything is possible, especially in a post-Crisis world. Thanks to the Multiverse game-changer, The Flash, as well as the rest of the Arrowverse, has the ability to redo old villains with a clean slate, and perhaps that will be reflected more in the seventh season.
